PRIMAL CONDITIONING

Welcome to primal

Welcome to Primal, an intense physical wellness program designed to reconnect you with your body through powerful, big movements. Set against the Minnesota outdoors, Primal harnesses the elements; rain, snow, sun, and wind (and some heavy things) to create a dynamic training experience that challenges your physical limits while fostering a sense of community and resilience.

Program Highlights:

  • Big Movements: Embrace the power of functional training with exercises that mimic natural movements like lifting, jumping, carrying, and moving. These primal movements engage multiple muscle groups, enhancing strength, coordination, and endurance.

  • Year-Round Training: No matter the season, Primal keeps you active and engaged. From the crisp air of winter workouts to the vibrant sun of summer, each session is designed to harness the unique energy of Minnesota’s changing environments. This program is done outside with no heat, no air conditioning, and no excuses.

  • Community Focused: Join a tribe of like-minded individuals dedicated to personal      growth and collective strength. Primal groups are limited to no more than 8 participants. Each Primal group takes place in the evening regardless of the weather so dress appropriately. Our supportive environment fosters camaraderie, motivation, and accountability, making every workout an exhilarating shared experience.

  • Once per week: Primal is not meant to replace your current routine. It is an add-on to your current program. Intense training like this is scientifically recommended to be done no more than once per week to allow the body to properly recover and adapt to the training. Each session is 60 minutes in length.

  • Inclusive: Unlike the other services offered at Protector Wellness, all people are elligible to participate in Primal regardless of their occupation. Mimimum age for participation is 18 and all abilities are accepted. A visit to your doctor ahead of time is highly recommended.

  • Affordable: Primal is not the expensive, exclusionary model that you see sweeping the nation in fitness where it seems the more you pay, the better the program. We want to make it accessible so our memberships are affordable with scholarships available.

Recommendations

Dress for the weather

Dressing appropriately for the weather requires careful consideration of temperature extremes to ensure comfort and safety. In cold conditions, layering is key: start with moisture-wicking base layers, add insulating materials like fleece or wool, and finish with a windproof and waterproof outer layer. Accessories such as hats, gloves, and thermal socks help retain body heat. For hot weather, opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to stay cool, and prioritize light colors to reflect sunlight. Regardless of the season, proper footwear and protection against UV rays, rain, or wind are essential to stay comfortable and prepared.

be prepared for anything

Expecting the unexpected in a high-intensity workout means preparing for both physical and mental challenges. Bring water or an electrolyte drink to stay hydrated and prevent fatigue. Be ready for unexpected factors like changes in weather or equipment issues if you’re in the gym. Listening to your body is crucial—know the signs of overexertion, such as dizziness or shortness of breath, and be prepared to pause or adjust the workout as needed. Flexibility and preparation are key to navigating surprises while keeping the workout effective and safe.

Gloves and dirty clothes

Work gloves and durable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty are essential for tasks that involve Primal. Gloves protect your hands from blisters, cuts, splinters, and exposure to harsh substances, while also providing better grip and comfort during heavy-duty work. Wearing old or rugged clothes ensures you can focus on the job without worrying about stains or damage to your attire. These items not only enhance safety and efficiency but also save your everyday clothes from unnecessary wear and tear.
